The Sano, leader of non-food consumer goods in Israel, in cooperation with Kibbutz Magen, which is situated close to the Gaza border, has undertaken an unparalleled solar energy project for greening its industry. Notwithstanding the conflicts in the region, the project is a giant leap toward green industrial solutions in Israel.

Project Overview

Sano will be the first Israeli industrial company that is going to apply the new, innovative solar heating system developed by Magen Eco Energy, the key operation of Kibbutz Magen. In the project, valued at around 1.5 million shekels, 800 square meters of solar collectors will be installed on the rooftop of Sano’s factory. These collectors will supply hot water to fabric softener manufacturers, using Israel’s abundant sunshine to drastically reduce the demand from conventional energy sources. It is anticipated that the system will reduce more than 100 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually and significantly decrease energy costs.

Key Technology Features

The solar energy system is powered with “Heliocool” solar collectors provided by Magen Eco Energy, the world leader in thermoplastic solar heating technologies. The integration of these advanced collectors into Sano’s production line enables the project to achieve a 68% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions associated with water heating. This development demonstrates the potential of renewable energy applications in industry.

Resilience in the Face of Adversity

Kibbutz Magen was for many years one of the leading kibbutzim in solar energy solutions, and its major source of income for more than 50 years was with Magen Eco Energy. The kibbutz’s energy division restarted activities two weeks from the forced evacuation after what happened on October 7, 2024. Indeed a true example of the resilience of Israel in innovation and sustainability in the face of adversity.

Vision for the Future

Yossi Zamenboda, Sano’s Vice President of Operations, said sustainability would help the company overcome these challenges and become a leader in the green industrial revolution. “This is social and environmental responsibility by the company,” added Irit Fidel, CEO of Fidelity Energy Consulting, which led the project. Setting a new bar for Israeli industry, it showcases how renewable energy can be integrated into industrial operations.

Conclusion

The cooperation between Sano and Kibbutz Magen thus signifies the commitment of Israel toward green innovation and the best practices concerning sustainability. This project will, therefore, help transition Israel’s industrial sector to greener and more resilient manufacturing by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting the use of renewable energy technologies.
